TEACHER TRAINING CAPE TOWN: Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)- 4 weeks

About TEFL: TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is recognised as one of the most interesting and exciting ways to travel the world, reach previously unreachable places, and experience different cultures. For those who plan to teach in South Africa, TEFL provides an opportunity to begin an enriching career in teaching. Opportunities exist in the growing number of English Language Schools, through private tutoring and in the expanding training sector. The TEYLT component of the EC TEFL certificate focuses on the needs of children aged 6-16. Many EFL teachers travel abroad and find themselves teaching children without having gained the necessary skills or expertise. This course equips the teacher to understand the specific needs of young learners and to use the most effective approaches for different learning styles.

General Course Information: This full-time course consists of intensive theoretical and practical training in a relaxed and fun English as a Foreign Language (EFL) environment. Training is provided for teaching English to Young Learners, Teenagers and Adults. Four weeks are spent in the classroom, learning theory, grammar and observing language teaching. This is interspersed with micro-teaching sessions where trainees get hands-on experience of putting theory into practice in training refugees. Trainees also gain valuable experience from teaching volunteer Primary and High School Learners who struggle with English as a Foreign or Second Language. The EC TEFL certificate is issued once the trainees have passed the practical teaching requirements and have completed the final research project and assignments for the course.

Three Week TEFL Course: We offer a three week comprehensive course that does not include the TEYL component. This course is suitable for those wishing to make a career change but have time constraints due to other commitments. The three week course is available at the given dates only.

TEFL PART-TIME (Tuesday and Thursday 18h00-21h00)

Due to demand we also have a part-time course available. This course takes place over two evenings a week over a ten-week period. Our first course commences 2 December - please enquire for further dates.
